Addendum note: two teens just showed up with backpacks on their chests, in regular t'shirts, jeans and hats.

"We're kangaroos"

Remind me to use that one next year.

It was made up for by the two young ladies in fairy princess costumes - long satin gowns and wings, who very shyly and softly said trick or treat. We offered them candy, and they thanked us. Thanked us. Then one of them said "May all your dreams come true!"

That was awesome :)

That's worth candy. I had one kid (about 11) obviously not in a costume:

"What's your costume?"

"I dunno. I just want some candy."

Next year I'm getting two types of candy. The good stuff for the small kids and the older ones that really try, and the really crappy candy no one wants for the kids and teens who barely bother.

That's what Jim said at one point. It's not a bad idea ...

My parents always got two kinds when we were kids. The good stuff (aka chocolate) for the people we knew and the standard hard candy for the people we didn't.
